Aluminium roller shutters in Lurgan: the essentials

Extruded aluminium laths are solid profiles that are stronger and more resistant to forced entry than roll-formed laths. A lighter curtain puts less strain on the motor, springs and barrel, which helps the shutter last.

For higher-risk sites, extruded aluminium or galvanised steel is usually preferred to foam-filled laths. Foam-filled laths reduce noise and add a little insulation compared with single-skin metal.

Options we can specify

  • Quieter running than steel
  • Smaller shutter box than steel
  • Roll-formed foam-filled or extruded aluminium laths
  • Manual or electric operation
  • Lighter curtain for less wear on motors and springs
  • No rust, suited to coastal and exposed sites

Rules in Northern Ireland

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In Northern Ireland planning permission for an external shopfront shutter is decided by your local council, which took over most planning decisions in 2015, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Design guidance generally favours shutters that keep the frontage visible.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Lurgan

Do you cover Lurgan?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair aluminium roller shutters in Lurgan and the BT66 district, as part of our coverage across County Armagh.

Is aluminium strong enough for a shop?

For most shops and offices, yes, especially extruded aluminium laths. For high-risk premises, galvanised steel or a rated shutter may be recommended.

Will an aluminium shutter dent?

Foam-filled laths can dent under a heavy impact. Extruded aluminium resists denting far better, and damaged laths can be replaced individually.

Do aluminium shutters corrode by the sea?

Aluminium does not rust like steel, and a powder-coated finish adds protection, which makes it a good choice for coastal frontages.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

Do you repair shutters fitted by other companies?

Yes. We repair and service most makes of roller shutter, grille and industrial door, whoever fitted them.
