What to know about aluminium roller shutters in Hastings

Aluminium is the usual choice for domestic shutters and garage roller doors. Roll-formed aluminium laths are two skins of aluminium with an insulating foam core, which keeps them light.

Extruded aluminium laths are solid profiles that are stronger and more resistant to forced entry than roll-formed laths. Aluminium curtains roll up tighter than steel, so the shutter box can often be smaller.

Features to choose from

  • Powder coated to a RAL colour
  • Lighter curtain for less wear on motors and springs
  • Manual or electric operation
  • Roll-formed foam-filled or extruded aluminium laths
  • Solid, perforated or vision laths
  • Quieter running than steel

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

Before you book in Hastings

Do you cover Hastings?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Hastings. We also cover nearby Bexhill-on-Sea, Hailsham and Eastbourne.

Do aluminium shutters corrode by the sea?

Aluminium does not rust like steel, and a powder-coated finish adds protection, which makes it a good choice for coastal frontages.

Will an aluminium shutter dent?

Foam-filled laths can dent under a heavy impact. Extruded aluminium resists denting far better, and damaged laths can be replaced individually.

Is aluminium strong enough for a shop?

For most shops and offices, yes, especially extruded aluminium laths. For high-risk premises, galvanised steel or a rated shutter may be recommended.

Do you work with landlords and managing agents?

Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.
