Aluminium roller shutters in Harwich: the essentials

A lighter curtain puts less strain on the motor, springs and barrel, which helps the shutter last. Aluminium does not rust, so it suits coastal towns and exposed frontages.

Perforated aluminium laths are available for frontages where the display needs to stay visible. Extruded aluminium laths are solid profiles that are stronger and more resistant to forced entry than roll-formed laths.

Options we can specify

  • Lighter curtain for less wear on motors and springs
  • Roll-formed foam-filled or extruded aluminium laths
  • Solid, perforated or vision laths
  • No rust, suited to coastal and exposed sites
  • Powder coated to a RAL colour
  • Manual or electric operation

Where we work around Harwich

Jobs in Harwich are planned as part of our Essex coverage, and visits can be combined with jobs in nearby Felixstowe, Ipswich and Clacton-on-Sea. Planning rules are those of your local council in England.

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Send the details

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Harwich

Do you cover Harwich?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Harwich. We also cover nearby Felixstowe, Ipswich and Clacton-on-Sea.

Will an aluminium shutter dent?

Foam-filled laths can dent under a heavy impact. Extruded aluminium resists denting far better, and damaged laths can be replaced individually.

What is the difference between roll-formed and extruded aluminium?

Roll-formed laths are two thin skins with a foam core, which is light and insulating. Extruded laths are solid profiles, which are heavier and much stronger.

Is aluminium strong enough for a shop?

For most shops and offices, yes, especially extruded aluminium laths. For high-risk premises, galvanised steel or a rated shutter may be recommended.

What warranty do I get?

Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.

Do you repair shutters fitted by other companies?

Yes. We repair and service most makes of roller shutter, grille and industrial door, whoever fitted them.
