What to know about aluminium roller shutters in Woodford Green

Aluminium is the usual choice for domestic shutters and garage roller doors. For higher-risk sites, extruded aluminium or galvanised steel is usually preferred to foam-filled laths.

Aluminium curtains roll up tighter than steel, so the shutter box can often be smaller. Extruded aluminium laths are solid profiles that are stronger and more resistant to forced entry than roll-formed laths.

What's included

  • Quieter running than steel
  • Powder coated to a RAL colour
  • Roll-formed foam-filled or extruded aluminium laths
  • No rust, suited to coastal and exposed sites
  • Lighter curtain for less wear on motors and springs
  • Solid, perforated or vision laths

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

  3. You approve a fixed price

Questions about aluminium roller shutters in Woodford Green

Do you cover Woodford Green?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair aluminium roller shutters in Woodford Green and the IG8 district, as part of our coverage across Greater London.

What is the difference between roll-formed and extruded aluminium?

Roll-formed laths are two thin skins with a foam core, which is light and insulating. Extruded laths are solid profiles, which are heavier and much stronger.

Is aluminium strong enough for a shop?

For most shops and offices, yes, especially extruded aluminium laths. For high-risk premises, galvanised steel or a rated shutter may be recommended.

Will an aluminium shutter dent?

Foam-filled laths can dent under a heavy impact. Extruded aluminium resists denting far better, and damaged laths can be replaced individually.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.

Can you fit outside trading hours?

Yes, out-of-hours fitting can be arranged for shops and businesses that cannot close during the day.
