What to know about aluminium roller shutters in Colne

Extruded aluminium laths are solid profiles that are stronger and more resistant to forced entry than roll-formed laths. Aluminium does not rust, so it suits coastal towns and exposed frontages.

Aluminium is the usual choice for domestic shutters and garage roller doors. Aluminium laths take powder coating well, so they can be finished in almost any RAL colour.

Features to choose from

  • Smaller shutter box than steel
  • Solid, perforated or vision laths
  • Quieter running than steel
  • Powder coated to a RAL colour
  • Manual or electric operation
  • Lighter curtain for less wear on motors and springs

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

Questions about aluminium roller shutters in Colne

Do you cover Colne?

Yes. Colne (BB8) is within our Lancashire coverage, along with nearby Nelson, Burnley and Accrington.

Do aluminium shutters corrode by the sea?

Aluminium does not rust like steel, and a powder-coated finish adds protection, which makes it a good choice for coastal frontages.

Will an aluminium shutter dent?

Foam-filled laths can dent under a heavy impact. Extruded aluminium resists denting far better, and damaged laths can be replaced individually.

What is the difference between roll-formed and extruded aluminium?

Roll-formed laths are two thin skins with a foam core, which is light and insulating. Extruded laths are solid profiles, which are heavier and much stronger.

What details help you quote quickly?

The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.

Will you take away my old shutter?

Yes. Removal and disposal of an old shutter is included when we quote for a replacement.
