What to know about aluminium roller shutters in Guildford

Foam-filled laths reduce noise and add a little insulation compared with single-skin metal. A lighter curtain puts less strain on the motor, springs and barrel, which helps the shutter last.

Aluminium does not rust, so it suits coastal towns and exposed frontages. Roll-formed aluminium laths are two skins of aluminium with an insulating foam core, which keeps them light.

Features to choose from

  • Smaller shutter box than steel
  • No rust, suited to coastal and exposed sites
  • Solid, perforated or vision laths
  • Powder coated to a RAL colour
  • Lighter curtain for less wear on motors and springs
  • Manual or electric operation

Where we work around Guildford

Guildford sits in Surrey, roughly 6 miles from Woking. Whether the job is in the GU1 district or nearby Godalming, Aldershot and Farnborough, the survey and quote work the same way.

Rules in England

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Guildford

Do you cover Guildford?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair aluminium roller shutters in Guildford and the GU1 district, as part of our coverage across Surrey.

What is the difference between roll-formed and extruded aluminium?

Roll-formed laths are two thin skins with a foam core, which is light and insulating. Extruded laths are solid profiles, which are heavier and much stronger.

Will an aluminium shutter dent?

Foam-filled laths can dent under a heavy impact. Extruded aluminium resists denting far better, and damaged laths can be replaced individually.

Do aluminium shutters corrode by the sea?

Aluminium does not rust like steel, and a powder-coated finish adds protection, which makes it a good choice for coastal frontages.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.
