What to know about fire shutter servicing & drop tests in Faversham

Fire safety law in each UK nation requires fire precautions, including fire shutters, to be maintained. We can test shutters linked to the fire alarm in coordination with your alarm contractor.

A shutter that sticks, closes too fast or stops short can leave an opening unprotected in a fire. Counter-height and kitchen fire shutters need the same testing as large shutters.

Options we can specify

  • Curtain, guide and bottom rail inspection
  • Closing speed and governor checks
  • Coordination with your alarm contractor
  • Full drop test under fire signal or release

Rules in England

Fire safety law and fire shutters

In England fire shutters form part of a building's fire precautions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must keep them maintained in efficient working order and good repair, which in practice means regular drop testing with written records.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.
