What to know about fire shutters in Maidenhead

Because they are part of the building's fire precautions, they must be maintained and tested regularly. Product certification and test evidence come from the manufacturer, and we provide the documentation with the shutter.

Escape routes and the effect of the shutter closing are checked against the fire strategy before ordering. Fire shutters are common in kitchens, serveries, plant rooms, warehouses and openings between compartments.

What's included

  • Planned servicing to keep it compliant
  • Manufacturer's test evidence and certification
  • Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
  • Governed closing speed for safety
  • Counter, hatch and large-opening versions

Rules in England

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

Before you book in Maidenhead

Do you cover Maidenhead?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Maidenhead. We also cover nearby Slough, Windsor and High Wycombe.

What rating do I need?

The rating must match the fire-resisting wall the shutter is in, which is set by the building's fire strategy or fire risk assessment. We work from that, or from your fire engineer's specification.

Do you certify fire shutters?

The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.

How often should a fire shutter be tested?

Fire shutters are part of a building's fire precautions, so they must be kept in working order. Manufacturers and industry guidance typically call for a drop test and service at least once a year, and more often where they are used heavily.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

Can you fit outside trading hours?

Yes, out-of-hours fitting can be arranged for shops and businesses that cannot close during the day.
