What to know about fire shutters in Crewe
Product certification and test evidence come from the manufacturer, and we provide the documentation with the shutter. The rating has to match the fire strategy for the wall the shutter sits in, which is set by the building's fire design.
Fire shutters are common in kitchens, serveries, plant rooms, warehouses and openings between compartments. Fail-safe or gravity-closing designs let the curtain descend even if the power fails during a fire.
Specification options
- Fire resistance from 60 to 240 minutes, product dependent
- Planned servicing to keep it compliant
- Counter, hatch and large-opening versions

Rules in England
Fire safety law and fire shutters
In England fire shutters form part of a building's fire precautions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must keep them maintained in efficient working order and good repair, which in practice means regular drop testing with written records.

Your questions answered
Do you cover Crewe?
Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Crewe. We also cover nearby Winsford, Kidsgrove and Congleton.
Do you certify fire shutters?
The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.
What rating do I need?
The rating must match the fire-resisting wall the shutter is in, which is set by the building's fire strategy or fire risk assessment. We work from that, or from your fire engineer's specification.
Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?
Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.
Can you fit outside trading hours?
Yes, out-of-hours fitting can be arranged for shops and businesses that cannot close during the day.
Do you repair shutters fitted by other companies?
Yes. We repair and service most makes of roller shutter, grille and industrial door, whoever fitted them.
