What to know about fire shutters in Clacton-on-Sea
Because they are part of the building's fire precautions, they must be maintained and tested regularly. They are usually linked to the fire alarm, and many also have a fusible link that releases the curtain in heat.
A fire shutter that sticks or closes too slowly may not protect the opening, which is why drop tests matter. The rating has to match the fire strategy for the wall the shutter sits in, which is set by the building's fire design.
Features to choose from
- Fire resistance from 60 to 240 minutes, product dependent
- Commissioning and drop test on handover
- Governed closing speed for safety
- Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
- Planned servicing to keep it compliant
- Manufacturer's test evidence and certification

Fire shutters: common questions
Do you cover Clacton-on-Sea?
Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Clacton-on-Sea. We also cover nearby Harwich, Colchester and Felixstowe.
Do you certify fire shutters?
The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.
What rating do I need?
The rating must match the fire-resisting wall the shutter is in, which is set by the building's fire strategy or fire risk assessment. We work from that, or from your fire engineer's specification.
Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?
Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.
What warranty do I get?
Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
Can you fit outside trading hours?
Yes, out-of-hours fitting can be arranged for shops and businesses that cannot close during the day.
