What to know about fire shutters in Newport
Counter-height fire shutters protect serving hatches and kitchen pass-throughs. Fail-safe or gravity-closing designs let the curtain descend even if the power fails during a fire.
A fire shutter that sticks or closes too slowly may not protect the opening, which is why drop tests matter. They are usually linked to the fire alarm, and many also have a fusible link that releases the curtain in heat.
Options we can specify
- Commissioning and drop test on handover
- Fire resistance from 60 to 240 minutes, product dependent
- Manufacturer's test evidence and certification
- Alarm-linked closing with fusible link backup
- Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
- Planned servicing to keep it compliant

Rules in Wales

Your questions answered
Do you cover Newport?
Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Newport. We also cover nearby Risca, Cwmbran and Pontypool.
What rating do I need?
The rating must match the fire-resisting wall the shutter is in, which is set by the building's fire strategy or fire risk assessment. We work from that, or from your fire engineer's specification.
Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?
Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.
Do you certify fire shutters?
The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.
Do you work with landlords and managing agents?
Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.
Will you take away my old shutter?
Yes. Removal and disposal of an old shutter is included when we quote for a replacement.
