Choosing fire shutters for premises in Ramsgate

Product certification and test evidence come from the manufacturer, and we provide the documentation with the shutter. They are usually linked to the fire alarm, and many also have a fusible link that releases the curtain in heat.

A fire shutter that sticks or closes too slowly may not protect the opening, which is why drop tests matter. Escape routes and the effect of the shutter closing are checked against the fire strategy before ordering.

Specification options

  • Planned servicing to keep it compliant
  • Alarm-linked closing with fusible link backup
  • Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
  • Governed closing speed for safety
  • Manufacturer's test evidence and certification
  • Commissioning and drop test on handover

Rules in England

Fire safety law and fire shutters

In England fire shutters form part of a building's fire precautions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must keep them maintained in efficient working order and good repair, which in practice means regular drop testing with written records.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the opening

Send the postcode, a rough size and a photo if you have one, using the form or a call.

  2. Free survey

We measure, check the structure, power supply and planning position, and talk through options.

  3. Written fixed price

You get a written quote with the product, finish, controls and price before anything is ordered.

  4. Made, fitted and handed over

The shutter is made to measure, fitted, commissioned and handed over with its documents.

Before you book in Ramsgate

Do you cover Ramsgate?

Yes. Ramsgate (CT11) is within our Kent coverage, along with nearby Broadstairs, Margate and Deal.

Do you certify fire shutters?

The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.

How often should a fire shutter be tested?

Fire shutters are part of a building's fire precautions, so they must be kept in working order. Manufacturers and industry guidance typically call for a drop test and service at least once a year, and more often where they are used heavily.

Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?

Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.

Can you fit outside trading hours?

Yes, out-of-hours fitting can be arranged for shops and businesses that cannot close during the day.
