Fire shutters in Epsom: the essentials

A fire shutter that sticks or closes too slowly may not protect the opening, which is why drop tests matter. Counter-height fire shutters protect serving hatches and kitchen pass-throughs.

Because they are part of the building's fire precautions, they must be maintained and tested regularly. Fail-safe or gravity-closing designs let the curtain descend even if the power fails during a fire.

Features to choose from

  • Commissioning and drop test on handover
  • Planned servicing to keep it compliant
  • Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
  • Governed closing speed for safety
  • Fire resistance from 60 to 240 minutes, product dependent
  • Counter, hatch and large-opening versions

Rules in England

Fire safety law and fire shutters

In England fire shutters form part of a building's fire precautions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must keep them maintained in efficient working order and good repair, which in practice means regular drop testing with written records.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the opening

Send the postcode, a rough size and a photo if you have one, using the form or a call.

  2. Free survey

We measure, check the structure, power supply and planning position, and talk through options.

  3. Written fixed price

You get a written quote with the product, finish, controls and price before anything is ordered.

  4. Made, fitted and handed over

The shutter is made to measure, fitted, commissioned and handed over with its documents.

Fire shutters: common questions

Do you cover Epsom?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair fire shutters in Epsom and the KT17 district, as part of our coverage across Surrey.

What rating do I need?

The rating must match the fire-resisting wall the shutter is in, which is set by the building's fire strategy or fire risk assessment. We work from that, or from your fire engineer's specification.

Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?

Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.

Do you certify fire shutters?

The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

Can I get a quote from photos?

Photos and approximate sizes let us give you a guide price quickly. A survey is still needed before a shutter is made, because it is built to exact measurements.
