How garage roller doors work, and what to ask for

Safety edges and obstacle detection stop the door on contact, which matters where children or pets are around. Up-and-over doors can usually be replaced with a roller door without changing the opening.

Roller doors open straight up, so cars can park close to the door and nothing swings into the driveway. A manual override lets you open the door from inside in a power cut.

Specification options

  • Single and double garage widths
  • Colour and woodgrain finishes

Rules in England

Shutters on a house: planning

For houses in England some small external changes fall under permitted development, but flats and maisonettes do not have the same rights, and listed buildings, conservation areas and Article 4 directions restrict changes to a property's appearance. If any of these apply, check with your council before ordering.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the opening

Send the postcode, a rough size and a photo if you have one, using the form or a call.

  2. Free survey

We measure, check the structure, power supply and planning position, and talk through options.

  3. Written fixed price

You get a written quote with the product, finish, controls and price before anything is ordered.

  4. Made, fitted and handed over

The shutter is made to measure, fitted, commissioned and handed over with its documents.

Questions about garage roller doors in Daventry

Do you cover Daventry?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair garage roller doors in Daventry and the NN11 district, as part of our coverage across Northamptonshire.

Can a roller door replace my up-and-over door?

Yes, usually without changing the opening. We check the headroom and side space at survey to choose the right fixing position.

How much headroom does a roller garage door need?

The box needs some space above the opening inside or outside the garage. Exact clearance depends on the door height and curtain, so we measure it at survey.

What safety features do garage roller doors have?

Electric doors should stop and reverse on contact, using a safety edge or obstacle detection, and have a manual override for power cuts.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.

Do you repair shutters fitted by other companies?

Yes. We repair and service most makes of roller shutter, grille and industrial door, whoever fitted them.
