Choosing high-speed doors for premises in Newtownards
High-speed doors are often fitted inside an insulated roller shutter, which provides security out of hours. They are designed for very high numbers of cycles a day, which a standard roller shutter is not.
Vision strips in the curtain let drivers and pedestrians see what is on the other side. Insulated and cold-store versions are available for temperature-controlled areas.
Options we can specify
- Self-repairing curtain on many models
- Radar, loop, pull-cord and push-button activation
- Pairs with a roller shutter for security
- High daily cycle rating
- Internal, external and cold-store versions
- Light curtain safety protection

Rules in Northern Ireland
Safety of powered shutters
Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

Your questions answered
Do you cover Newtownards?
Yes. Newtownards (BT22) is within our County Down coverage, along with nearby Belfast, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey.
Do high-speed doors save energy?
They reduce the time an opening stands open, which cuts heat loss and draughts on busy doors.
How fast do they open?
High-speed doors open in a few seconds, much faster than a roller shutter. The exact speed depends on the model and size.
What happens if a forklift hits the curtain?
On many models the curtain pops out of its guides and re-feeds itself on the next cycle, which avoids the damage a steel shutter would suffer.
What details help you quote quickly?
The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.
Who carries out the work?
Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.
