How high-speed doors work, and what to ask for

They are designed for very high numbers of cycles a day, which a standard roller shutter is not. The fabric curtain can be pushed out of its guides by an impact and re-inserted automatically on many models, reducing damage.

Light curtains in the frame stop the curtain closing if anything is in the opening. Radar, induction loops and pull cords open the door automatically as traffic approaches.

Options we can specify

  • Pairs with a roller shutter for security
  • Internal, external and cold-store versions
  • Fast-acting PVC fabric curtain
  • Radar, loop, pull-cord and push-button activation
  • Light curtain safety protection
  • Vision strips for safe traffic flow

High-speed doors: common questions

Do you cover Aberdeen?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair high-speed doors in Aberdeen and the AB10 district, as part of our coverage across Grampian.

What happens if a forklift hits the curtain?

On many models the curtain pops out of its guides and re-feeds itself on the next cycle, which avoids the damage a steel shutter would suffer.

How fast do they open?

High-speed doors open in a few seconds, much faster than a roller shutter. The exact speed depends on the model and size.

Is a high-speed door secure?

Not on its own. The fabric curtain is for traffic and environmental control, so it is often paired with a roller shutter that closes out of hours.

Do you work with landlords and managing agents?

Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.

Will you take away my old shutter?

Yes. Removal and disposal of an old shutter is included when we quote for a replacement.
