How high-speed doors work, and what to ask for

The fabric curtain can be pushed out of its guides by an impact and re-inserted automatically on many models, reducing damage. Food, pharmaceutical and cold-store sites use them to keep zones separate.

Regular servicing keeps the sensors and safety devices working correctly on such a busy door. High-speed doors open and close much faster than roller shutters, so the opening spends less time open.

Options we can specify

  • Light curtain safety protection
  • Vision strips for safe traffic flow
  • Radar, loop, pull-cord and push-button activation
  • High daily cycle rating
  • Internal, external and cold-store versions
  • Self-repairing curtain on many models

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  3. Written fixed price

Before you book in Huyton

Do you cover Huyton?

Yes. Huyton (L36) is within our Merseyside coverage, along with nearby Prescot, Halewood and St Helens.

What happens if a forklift hits the curtain?

On many models the curtain pops out of its guides and re-feeds itself on the next cycle, which avoids the damage a steel shutter would suffer.

Is a high-speed door secure?

Not on its own. The fabric curtain is for traffic and environmental control, so it is often paired with a roller shutter that closes out of hours.

How fast do they open?

High-speed doors open in a few seconds, much faster than a roller shutter. The exact speed depends on the model and size.

Will you take away my old shutter?

Yes. Removal and disposal of an old shutter is included when we quote for a replacement.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.
