Choosing home security shutters for premises in Highbury

Patio and bi-fold doors can be covered by a single wide shutter, protecting the largest area of glass. Colours are chosen to match the window frames, with anthracite grey and white the most common choices.

Shutters protect glazing from storm debris and reduce noise from busy roads. Domestic shutters use slim double-skin aluminium laths filled with foam, which keeps them light and quiet.

Features to choose from

  • Face-fixed, reveal-fixed or built-in boxes
  • Manual override or battery backup on escape windows
  • Colours matched to window frames
  • Blackout and added insulation when closed
  • Slim foam-filled aluminium laths
  • Patio and bi-fold door shutters

Where we work around Highbury

Jobs in Highbury are planned as part of our Greater London coverage, and visits can be combined with jobs in nearby Islington, Holloway and Stamford Hill. Planning rules are those of your local council in England.

Rules in England

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Questions about home security shutters in Highbury

Do you cover Highbury?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Highbury. We also cover nearby Islington, Holloway and Stamford Hill.

Can shutters be added to an existing window?

Yes. Most domestic shutters are retrofitted with a box on the face of the wall or in the reveal, so the window does not need to be replaced.

Will shutters stop me escaping in a fire?

They must not. Shutters on bedroom or escape windows are fitted with a manual override or battery backup so they can be opened quickly, and we discuss escape routes at survey.

How noisy are electric home shutters?

Domestic tube motors are quiet, and foam-filled laths reduce rattle, so shutters can be used in bedrooms without disturbing anyone.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.
