What to know about home security shutters in Cheshunt

Electric operation with a wall switch, remote or timer makes it easy to close every shutter in the house at once. Closed shutters add a layer of insulation and can block nearly all daylight, which helps bedrooms and media rooms.

Smart controllers can link shutters to timers so the house looks occupied while you are away. The box can sit on the face of the wall, inside the window reveal, or be built in during an extension or new build.

Options we can specify

  • Slim foam-filled aluminium laths
  • Quiet operation suited to bedrooms
  • Wall switch, remote, timer or app control
  • Blackout and added insulation when closed
  • Colours matched to window frames
  • Manual override or battery backup on escape windows

Rules in England

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Cheshunt

Do you cover Cheshunt?

Yes. Cheshunt (EN8) is within our Hertfordshire coverage, along with nearby Waltham Abbey, Enfield and Hoddesdon.

Do I need planning permission for shutters on my house?

It depends on the property. Houses in England often have permitted development rights for minor changes, but flats do not, and listed buildings, conservation areas and Article 4 areas add restrictions. Rules differ in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We flag it at survey; your council has the final say.

How noisy are electric home shutters?

Domestic tube motors are quiet, and foam-filled laths reduce rattle, so shutters can be used in bedrooms without disturbing anyone.

Can shutters be added to an existing window?

Yes. Most domestic shutters are retrofitted with a box on the face of the wall or in the reveal, so the window does not need to be replaced.

What warranty do I get?

Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.
