Choosing home security shutters for premises in Skegness

Shutters protect glazing from storm debris and reduce noise from busy roads. Whether planning permission is needed depends on the property, the council and any listing or conservation area.

Closed shutters add a layer of insulation and can block nearly all daylight, which helps bedrooms and media rooms. Smart controllers can link shutters to timers so the house looks occupied while you are away.

Options we can specify

  • Colours matched to window frames
  • Face-fixed, reveal-fixed or built-in boxes
  • Quiet operation suited to bedrooms
  • Blackout and added insulation when closed
  • Manual override or battery backup on escape windows
  • Patio and bi-fold door shutters

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Skegness

Do you cover Skegness?

Yes. Skegness (PE25) is within our Lincolnshire coverage, along with nearby Boston.

Do I need planning permission for shutters on my house?

It depends on the property. Houses in England often have permitted development rights for minor changes, but flats do not, and listed buildings, conservation areas and Article 4 areas add restrictions. Rules differ in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We flag it at survey; your council has the final say.

Do home shutters help with heating bills?

Closed shutters add an insulating layer over the glass and reduce draughts, which helps keep heat in at night. The effect depends on the windows you already have.

Can shutters be added to an existing window?

Yes. Most domestic shutters are retrofitted with a box on the face of the wall or in the reveal, so the window does not need to be replaced.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.

What warranty do I get?

Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
