Choosing home security shutters for premises in Caterham

Colours are chosen to match the window frames, with anthracite grey and white the most common choices. Shutters protect glazing from storm debris and reduce noise from busy roads.

Smart controllers can link shutters to timers so the house looks occupied while you are away. Electric operation with a wall switch, remote or timer makes it easy to close every shutter in the house at once.

Features to choose from

  • Patio and bi-fold door shutters
  • Slim foam-filled aluminium laths
  • Quiet operation suited to bedrooms
  • Blackout and added insulation when closed
  • Colours matched to window frames
  • Manual override or battery backup on escape windows

Rules in England

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

Before you book in Caterham

Do you cover Caterham?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair home security shutters in Caterham and the CR3 district, as part of our coverage across Surrey.

Do home shutters help with heating bills?

Closed shutters add an insulating layer over the glass and reduce draughts, which helps keep heat in at night. The effect depends on the windows you already have.

Can shutters be added to an existing window?

Yes. Most domestic shutters are retrofitted with a box on the face of the wall or in the reveal, so the window does not need to be replaced.

Will shutters stop me escaping in a fire?

They must not. Shutters on bedroom or escape windows are fitted with a manual override or battery backup so they can be opened quickly, and we discuss escape routes at survey.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.
