What to know about industrial roller shutter doors in Hornchurch

Timers, induction loops and push-button stations can be added for busy loading bays. Wicket doors and vision panels let staff walk through or see outside without opening the full door.

Direct-drive motors mounted on the end plate are typical on large doors because they handle heavy curtains and frequent cycles. Bump protection, bollards and guide-rail guards reduce damage from vehicles.

What's included

  • Direct-drive and chain motors for heavy use
  • Safety edges, photocells and light curtains
  • Push-button, pull-cord, loop or remote control

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

Industrial roller shutter doors: common questions

Do you cover Hornchurch?

Yes. Hornchurch (RM11) is within our Greater London coverage, along with nearby Romford, Dagenham and Becontree.

What safety devices are required?

It depends on the risk assessment. Doors that close automatically or where people and vehicles pass usually need a safety edge, photocells or a light curtain, and force testing on commissioning.

Can you fit a door with a pedestrian door in it?

Yes. Wicket doors can be built into many industrial shutters, although they need interlocks so the curtain cannot move while the wicket is open.

Do industrial doors need a three-phase supply?

Larger doors often use three-phase motors, but many can run on single-phase. We check your supply at survey and specify the drive to suit.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.
