What to know about roller grilles in Ampthill

Councils often see roller grilles as more acceptable than solid shutters in town centres. Wide grilles use intermediate posts or a stronger curtain to resist being pushed in.

Shopping centres often require roller grilles rather than solid shutters on unit fronts. Brick-bond, tubular and link patterns give different levels of visibility and strength.

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

Questions about roller grilles in Ampthill

Do you cover Ampthill?

Yes. Ampthill (MK45) is within our Bedfordshire coverage, along with nearby Bedford, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard.

Do roller grilles need planning permission?

External roller grilles usually need planning permission like other external security. Councils often find them more acceptable than solid shutters.

Is a roller grille or a perforated shutter better?

A grille gives far more visibility and airflow, while a perforated shutter gives more privacy and weather protection. Shopping centres often specify grilles; high streets use both.

Can a grille cover a very wide unit?

Yes, with a stronger curtain or removable intermediate posts to keep it rigid.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.
