What to know about roller grilles in Hailsham

Councils often see roller grilles as more acceptable than solid shutters in town centres. Brick-bond, tubular and link patterns give different levels of visibility and strength.

Polycarbonate infill panels can be added to stop items being passed through the lattice. An open curtain lets air and light through, so displays stay on view and the unit does not look closed down.

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Your questions answered

Do you cover Hailsham?

Yes. Hailsham (BN27) is within our East Sussex coverage, along with nearby Eastbourne, Seaford and Bexhill-on-Sea.

Can things be passed through a grille?

Small items can pass through an open lattice. Polycarbonate infill panels close the gaps if that is a concern.

Is a roller grille or a perforated shutter better?

A grille gives far more visibility and airflow, while a perforated shutter gives more privacy and weather protection. Shopping centres often specify grilles; high streets use both.

Do roller grilles need planning permission?

External roller grilles usually need planning permission like other external security. Councils often find them more acceptable than solid shutters.

Do you work with landlords and managing agents?

Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.
