What to know about roller grilles in Gravesend

Roller grilles roll into a box like a shutter, and can be manual or electric. Polycarbonate infill panels can be added to stop items being passed through the lattice.

Grilles can be combined with a solid section at the base for kick protection. Brick-bond, tubular and link patterns give different levels of visibility and strength.

Options we can specify

  • Solid kick panel option
  • Anodised or powder-coated finishes
  • Removable intermediate posts for wide units
  • Brick-bond, tubular or link lattice

Jobs in Gravesend are planned as part of our Kent coverage, and visits can be combined with jobs in nearby Grays, Strood and South Ockendon. Planning rules are those of your local council in England.

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Questions about roller grilles in Gravesend

Do you cover Gravesend?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair roller grilles in Gravesend and the DA12 district, as part of our coverage across Kent.

Is a roller grille or a perforated shutter better?

A grille gives far more visibility and airflow, while a perforated shutter gives more privacy and weather protection. Shopping centres often specify grilles; high streets use both.

Do roller grilles need planning permission?

External roller grilles usually need planning permission like other external security. Councils often find them more acceptable than solid shutters.

Can things be passed through a grille?

Small items can pass through an open lattice. Polycarbonate infill panels close the gaps if that is a concern.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.

Do you repair shutters fitted by other companies?

Yes. We repair and service most makes of roller shutter, grille and industrial door, whoever fitted them.
