Roller grilles in Great Yarmouth: the essentials

Roller grilles roll into a box like a shutter, and can be manual or electric. Aluminium grilles are lighter and suit large unit fronts; steel grilles add strength.

Councils often see roller grilles as more acceptable than solid shutters in town centres. Grilles can be combined with a solid section at the base for kick protection.

Features to choose from

  • Removable intermediate posts for wide units
  • Brick-bond, tubular or link lattice
  • Solid kick panel option
  • Optional polycarbonate infill
  • Aluminium or steel curtains
  • Anodised or powder-coated finishes

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Questions about roller grilles in Great Yarmouth

Do you cover Great Yarmouth?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair roller grilles in Great Yarmouth and the NR30 district, as part of our coverage across Norfolk.

Is a roller grille or a perforated shutter better?

A grille gives far more visibility and airflow, while a perforated shutter gives more privacy and weather protection. Shopping centres often specify grilles; high streets use both.

Can things be passed through a grille?

Small items can pass through an open lattice. Polycarbonate infill panels close the gaps if that is a concern.

Can a grille cover a very wide unit?

Yes, with a stronger curtain or removable intermediate posts to keep it rigid.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.

Do you repair shutters fitted by other companies?

Yes. We repair and service most makes of roller shutter, grille and industrial door, whoever fitted them.
