How security roller shutters work, and what to ask for

Bottom-rail locks, wind locks and anti-lift blocks stop the curtain being forced upwards or bowed out of its guides. Aluminium laths keep the curtain light and quiet, while galvanised steel adds weight and resistance for higher-risk premises.

Electric shutters are commissioned with safety checks and a handover pack, so you have the paperwork for your records and your insurer. Every shutter is made to the measured opening, so the box, guides and curtain are sized for your frontage rather than cut from stock.

Options we can specify

  • Solid, perforated, punched or vision laths
  • LPS 1175 rated options for higher-risk premises
  • Manual override for power cuts on electric shutters
  • External, behind-fascia or internal shutter box
  • Powder coating to a RAL colour of your choice
  • Aluminium or galvanised steel laths, single or double-skin

Rules in England

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the opening

Send the postcode, a rough size and a photo if you have one, using the form or a call.

  2. Free survey

We measure, check the structure, power supply and planning position, and talk through options.

  3. Written fixed price

You get a written quote with the product, finish, controls and price before anything is ordered.

  4. Made, fitted and handed over

The shutter is made to measure, fitted, commissioned and handed over with its documents.

Before you book in Wigston

Do you cover Wigston?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Wigston. We also cover nearby Oadby, Market Harborough and Hinckley.

Do electric shutters still work in a power cut?

Electric shutters are fitted with a manual override, usually a hand crank or a release, so the shutter can be opened or closed without power.

How long does a roller shutter take to fit?

Most single shopfront shutters are fitted in a day once they have been made. Wider frontages, steel-framed openings or new power supplies can add time, and we confirm the installation day with your quote.

Will I need planning permission?

External shutters on commercial premises usually need planning permission, and listed buildings need listed building consent. We flag this at survey so you can apply before the shutter is ordered.

Will you take away my old shutter?

Yes. Removal and disposal of an old shutter is included when we quote for a replacement.

What warranty do I get?

Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
