Security roller shutters in Nuneaton: the essentials

Insulated double-skin laths reduce heat loss and noise through the opening, which helps unheated units and stock rooms. Most commercial shutters are now electric, with a tube or direct-drive motor, a key switch and a manual override for power cuts.

Where an insurer or police adviser asks for a tested product, rated shutters certified to LPS 1175 are available. Bottom-rail locks, wind locks and anti-lift blocks stop the curtain being forced upwards or bowed out of its guides.

Specification options

  • External, behind-fascia or internal shutter box
  • LPS 1175 rated options for higher-risk premises
  • Bottom-rail locks, wind locks and anti-lift blocks
  • Safety edge or photocells where the risk assessment calls for them
  • Solid, perforated, punched or vision laths
  • Powder coating to a RAL colour of your choice

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the opening

Send the postcode, a rough size and a photo if you have one, using the form or a call.

  2. Free survey

We measure, check the structure, power supply and planning position, and talk through options.

  3. Written fixed price

You get a written quote with the product, finish, controls and price before anything is ordered.

  4. Made, fitted and handed over

The shutter is made to measure, fitted, commissioned and handed over with its documents.

Security roller shutters: common questions

Do you cover Nuneaton?

Yes. Nuneaton (CV11) is within our Warwickshire coverage, along with nearby Bedworth, Hinckley and Coventry.

Should I choose aluminium or steel?

Aluminium is lighter, quieter and resists corrosion, so it suits most shops and offices. Galvanised steel is heavier and harder to cut through, so it is often chosen for industrial units and higher-risk premises.

Can a roller shutter be fitted inside the shop?

Yes. Internal shutters sit behind the glazing, which protects the stock and usually avoids external planning issues, although the glass itself is left exposed.

Do electric shutters still work in a power cut?

Electric shutters are fitted with a manual override, usually a hand crank or a release, so the shutter can be opened or closed without power.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.
