How retractable security grilles work, and what to ask for

Top and bottom tracks keep the grille rigid and hard to lift or push in. Retractable grilles fold to the side of the opening, so there is no box above the window or door. Some grilles are tested to security standards such as LPS 1175 or STS 202 if a rated product is needed.

Grilles on escape routes need to be openable quickly from the inside, which is checked against the fire risk assessment. Grilles can be fitted to rear doors, stock rooms and vulnerable ground-floor windows as well as shopfronts.
