What to know about retractable security grilles in Croydon

Locks are built into the grille, often with a key on one side and a thumb turn on the other where escape matters. Removable bar grilles can be lifted out during the day for windows that do not need daily operation.

The open lattice lets light in and keeps displays visible, which suits shops and offices. Top and bottom tracks keep the grille rigid and hard to lift or push in.

Where we work around Croydon

Croydon sits in Greater London, roughly 9 miles from central London. Whether the job is in the CR0 district or nearby South Croydon, Wallington and Carshalton, the survey and quote work the same way.

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Croydon

Do you cover Croydon?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair retractable security grilles in Croydon and the CR0 district, as part of our coverage across Greater London.

Can a grille be fitted on a fire exit?

Only if it can be opened quickly from the inside without a key, and the fire risk assessment allows it. We check this before fitting.

Are grilles as secure as shutters?

A good grille with top and bottom tracks is a strong deterrent and hard to defeat quickly. For tested security, rated grilles are available.

Do grilles get in the way during the day?

Retractable grilles fold neatly to the side of the opening. Removable grilles can be lifted out and stored.

What details help you quote quickly?

The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.

What warranty do I get?

Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
