Choosing shutter motor replacement for premises in Croydon

A motor that hums but does not turn, overheats or stops at random may need replacing, though controls are checked first. After a new motor is fitted, safety devices and limits are tested before handover.

A failed motor on an otherwise sound shutter is usually far cheaper to replace than the whole shutter. Motors are matched to the curtain weight and barrel size, so an overloaded motor does not fail early.

Specification options

  • Obstacle detection options
  • Tube motors for domestic and shop shutters
  • Direct-drive and chain motors for industrial doors
  • Limits set and tested
  • Safety checks on handover
  • Key switch, remote and receiver upgrades

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Before you book in Croydon

Do you cover Croydon?

Yes. Croydon (CR0) is within our Greater London coverage, along with nearby South Croydon, Wallington and Carshalton.

Do I need a new key switch too?

Not always. If the switch works and is compatible, it can stay. Worn or weather-damaged switches are often replaced at the same time.

Can you fit a motor to a different make of shutter?

Usually yes, by matching the motor size and torque to the barrel and curtain.

How do I know if the motor has failed?

Signs include humming without movement, stopping at random, overheating or not responding at all. The fault can also be the switch, receiver or power, so an engineer checks those first.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.

Do you work with landlords and managing agents?

Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.
