Shutter motor replacement in Gwent: the essentials

We fit motors to most makes of shutter and door. Industrial direct-drive motors can be replaced with a matching or compatible unit on most doors. Smart and timer controls can be added when the motor is replaced.

Some replacement motors have built-in obstacle detection, which adds protection on doors without a safety edge. Motors are matched to the curtain weight and barrel size, so an overloaded motor does not fail early.

Options we can specify

  • Smart and timer control options
  • Obstacle detection options
  • Motors matched to curtain weight
  • Direct-drive and chain motors for industrial doors
  • Safety checks on handover
  • Limits set and tested

Rules in Wales

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

Electrical work

Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in Wales, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations as applied in Wales, so the work is self-certified by a registered electrician or notified to building control.

Questions about shutter motor replacement in Gwent

Can you fit a motor to a different make of shutter?

Usually yes, by matching the motor size and torque to the barrel and curtain.

How do I know if the motor has failed?

Signs include humming without movement, stopping at random, overheating or not responding at all. The fault can also be the switch, receiver or power, so an engineer checks those first.

Can I add remote control when the motor is replaced?

Yes, many replacement motors and controllers support remotes, timers or app control.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

What details help you quote quickly?

The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.
