How shutter replacement works, and what to ask for

Rust, repeated faults, badly dented laths and outdated controls are common reasons to replace a shutter. Replacing an external shutter with a different design may need planning permission, so it is checked first.

We price repair and replacement side by side when both are possible, so you can choose. The old shutter is removed and taken away as part of a full replacement.

Options we can specify

  • Box relocation where possible
  • Full strip-out and replacement
  • Upgrade to perforated, insulated or rated laths
  • Manual to electric at the same time
  • Replacement curtain on existing box and guides
  • Removal of the old shutter

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

Yes, removal and disposal of the old shutter is included in a full replacement quote.

Do you work with landlords and managing agents?

Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.

Is the survey free?
