What to know about shutter replacement in Bicester

Rust, repeated faults, badly dented laths and outdated controls are common reasons to replace a shutter. We price repair and replacement side by side when both are possible, so you can choose.

If the box, barrel and guides are sound, fitting a new curtain can be much cheaper than replacing everything. The old shutter is removed and taken away as part of a full replacement.

Features to choose from

  • Box relocation where possible
  • Repair and replace priced side by side
  • Manual to electric at the same time
  • Commissioning and safety checks
  • Upgrade to perforated, insulated or rated laths
  • Replacement curtain on existing box and guides

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Before you book in Bicester

Do you cover Bicester?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Bicester. We also cover nearby Banbury, Aylesbury and Witney.

Will you take the old shutter away?

Yes, removal and disposal of the old shutter is included in a full replacement quote.

Do I need planning permission to replace a shutter?

A like-for-like replacement often does not, but changing the design, colour or position of an external shutter may. We check with you before ordering.

Is it worth upgrading when I replace?

It is the cheapest time to add electric operation, perforated laths or insulation, because the work is being done anyway.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.
