What to know about shutter replacement in Shirley (Solihull)
If the box, barrel and guides are sound, fitting a new curtain can be much cheaper than replacing everything. The old shutter is removed and taken away as part of a full replacement.
Like-for-like replacements on existing fixings are usually quicker to fit than new installations. Replacing an external shutter with a different design may need planning permission, so it is checked first.

Rules in England
Planning permission for shopfront shutters
In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

Your questions answered
Do you cover Shirley (Solihull)?
Yes. Shirley (Solihull) (B90) is within our West Midlands coverage, along with nearby Solihull, Smethwick and Redditch.
Can I keep my shutter box and just replace the curtain?
Often yes, if the box, barrel and guides are sound. We inspect them and price both options.
Do I need planning permission to replace a shutter?
A like-for-like replacement often does not, but changing the design, colour or position of an external shutter may. We check with you before ordering.
Is it worth upgrading when I replace?
It is the cheapest time to add electric operation, perforated laths or insulation, because the work is being done anyway.
Can you fit outside trading hours?
Yes, out-of-hours fitting can be arranged for shops and businesses that cannot close during the day.
What warranty do I get?
Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
