What to know about shutter servicing & maintenance in Devon

Small issues like worn bearings or loose fixings are cheaper to fix early than after a breakdown. Workplace regulations require the employer or person in control of the premises to keep doors and gates, including powered shutters, maintained in efficient working order. Servicing can extend the life of motors and springs by keeping the curtain running freely.

Each visit ends with a written report listing what was checked and anything that needs attention. A service covers the curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices.

What's included

  • Written report after every visit
  • Full mechanical inspection
  • Cleaning and lubrication of guides and bearings
  • Fixing and bracket checks
  • Safety edge and photocell testing
  • Motor, limit and control checks

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Questions about shutter servicing & maintenance in Devon

What is checked on a service?

The curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices, followed by a written report.

Is servicing a legal requirement?

In workplaces, the employer or person in control of the premises must keep powered doors maintained in efficient working order and safe for staff and the public. Regular servicing with a record is the practical way to show that.

Can you service shutters across several sites?

Yes, we can schedule planned maintenance across multiple sites with one report format.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.
