What to know about shutter servicing & maintenance in Blackheath

Busy commercial and industrial doors usually need servicing more often than a shop shutter used twice a day. Servicing can extend the life of motors and springs by keeping the curtain running freely.

Safety edges and photocells are tested so the shutter stops and reverses as it should. Each visit ends with a written report listing what was checked and anything that needs attention.

Options we can specify

  • Full mechanical inspection
  • Safety edge and photocell testing
  • Written report after every visit
  • Multi-shutter and multi-site contracts
  • Fixing and bracket checks
  • Motor, limit and control checks

Covering Blackheath and nearby

Jobs in Blackheath are planned as part of our Greater London coverage, and visits can be combined with jobs in nearby Greenwich, Catford and Eltham. Planning rules are those of your local council in England.

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Before you book in Blackheath

Do you cover Blackheath?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair shutter servicing & maintenance in Blackheath and the SE3 district, as part of our coverage across Greater London.

How often should a roller shutter be serviced?

Most shop shutters benefit from a yearly service, and busy commercial or industrial doors usually need two or more visits a year. The manufacturer's instructions and your risk assessment set the frequency.

What is checked on a service?

The curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices, followed by a written report.

Is servicing a legal requirement?

In workplaces, the employer or person in control of the premises must keep powered doors maintained in efficient working order and safe for staff and the public. Regular servicing with a record is the practical way to show that.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.

What warranty do I get?

Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
