How shutter servicing & maintenance works, and what to ask for
Servicing can extend the life of motors and springs by keeping the curtain running freely. Safety edges and photocells are tested so the shutter stops and reverses as it should.
Small issues like worn bearings or loose fixings are cheaper to fix early than after a breakdown. Fire shutters need their own drop testing and servicing, which we cover separately.
Specification options
- Multi-shutter and multi-site contracts
- Fixing and bracket checks
- Motor, limit and control checks
- Full mechanical inspection
- Safety edge and photocell testing
- Cleaning and lubrication of guides and bearings

Rules in England
Safety of powered shutters
Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.
