What to know about shutter servicing & maintenance in Shepherds Bush

Servicing can extend the life of motors and springs by keeping the curtain running freely. A service record helps show insurers and inspectors that the shutter is looked after.

Safety edges and photocells are tested so the shutter stops and reverses as it should. Fire shutters need their own drop testing and servicing, which we cover separately.

Specification options

  • Spring tension and balance checks

Where we work around Shepherds Bush

Jobs in Shepherds Bush are planned as part of our Greater London coverage, and visits can be combined with jobs in nearby Notting Hill, Chiswick and Fulham. Planning rules are those of your local council in England.

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Your questions answered

Do you cover Shepherds Bush?

Yes. We survey, fit and repair shutter servicing & maintenance in Shepherds Bush and the W12 district, as part of our coverage across Greater London.

How often should a roller shutter be serviced?

Most shop shutters benefit from a yearly service, and busy commercial or industrial doors usually need two or more visits a year. The manufacturer's instructions and your risk assessment set the frequency.

Is servicing a legal requirement?

In workplaces, the employer or person in control of the premises must keep powered doors maintained in efficient working order and safe for staff and the public. Regular servicing with a record is the practical way to show that.

What is checked on a service?

The curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices, followed by a written report.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.
