How shutter servicing & maintenance works, and what to ask for

A service covers the curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices. Servicing can extend the life of motors and springs by keeping the curtain running freely.

Fire shutters need their own drop testing and servicing, which we cover separately. Safety edges and photocells are tested so the shutter stops and reverses as it should.

Options we can specify

  • Fixing and bracket checks
  • Motor, limit and control checks
  • Written report after every visit
  • Cleaning and lubrication of guides and bearings
  • Safety edge and photocell testing
  • Spring tension and balance checks

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Questions about shutter servicing & maintenance in South Croydon

Do you cover South Croydon?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in South Croydon. We also cover nearby Croydon, Purley and Wallington.

What is checked on a service?

The curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices, followed by a written report.

Is servicing a legal requirement?

In workplaces, the employer or person in control of the premises must keep powered doors maintained in efficient working order and safe for staff and the public. Regular servicing with a record is the practical way to show that.

How often should a roller shutter be serviced?

Most shop shutters benefit from a yearly service, and busy commercial or industrial doors usually need two or more visits a year. The manufacturer's instructions and your risk assessment set the frequency.

What details help you quote quickly?

The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.

How long does it take from order to fitting?

Shutters are made to measure after the survey, so the lead time depends on the product, colour and any security rating. We confirm it in your quote.
