How shutter servicing & maintenance works, and what to ask for

A service record helps show insurers and inspectors that the shutter is looked after. Workplace regulations require the employer or person in control of the premises to keep doors and gates, including powered shutters, maintained in efficient working order.

Small issues like worn bearings or loose fixings are cheaper to fix early than after a breakdown. Multi-site and multi-shutter contracts can be scheduled together so every door is covered.

Options we can specify

  • Motor, limit and control checks
  • Full mechanical inspection
  • Fixing and bracket checks
  • Cleaning and lubrication of guides and bearings
  • Spring tension and balance checks
  • Safety edge and photocell testing

St Albans and surrounding towns

St Albans sits in Hertfordshire, roughly 7 miles from Watford. Whether the job is in the AL1 district or nearby Harpenden, Hatfield and Hemel Hempstead, the survey and quote work the same way.

Rules in England

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Describe the fault

Tell us what the shutter is doing, the make if you know it, and send a photo or video.

  2. Engineer visit

An engineer inspects the shutter, finds the cause and makes it safe.

  3. Fixed repair price

You get the repair price before parts are fitted; simple fixes are often done on the first visit.

  4. Tested and reported

Limits and safety devices are checked, and you get a note of what was done.

Questions about shutter servicing & maintenance in St Albans

Do you cover St Albans?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in St Albans. We also cover nearby Harpenden, Hatfield and Hemel Hempstead.

How often should a roller shutter be serviced?

Most shop shutters benefit from a yearly service, and busy commercial or industrial doors usually need two or more visits a year. The manufacturer's instructions and your risk assessment set the frequency.

What is checked on a service?

The curtain, guides, barrel, springs, motor, limits, controls, locks and safety devices, followed by a written report.

Can you service shutters across several sites?

Yes, we can schedule planned maintenance across multiple sites with one report format.

What details help you quote quickly?

The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.

Can I get a quote from photos?

Photos and approximate sizes let us give you a guide price quickly. A survey is still needed before a shutter is made, because it is built to exact measurements.
