What to know about shutter servicing & maintenance in Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

Workplace regulations require the employer or person in control of the premises to keep doors and gates, including powered shutters, maintained in efficient working order. Small issues like worn bearings or loose fixings are cheaper to fix early than after a breakdown. A service record helps show insurers and inspectors that the shutter is looked after.

Multi-site and multi-shutter contracts can be scheduled together so every door is covered. Busy commercial and industrial doors usually need servicing more often than a shop shutter used twice a day.

Rules in Scotland

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.
