What to know about fire shutter servicing & drop tests in Mid Glamorgan

Manufacturers and industry guidance typically call for testing at least once a year, and more often for busy or critical shutters. Each visit is recorded with a certificate-style report for your fire safety log book. The fusible link, alarm interface, governor, curtain, guides and bottom rail are all inspected.

Counter-height and kitchen fire shutters need the same testing as large shutters. A shutter that sticks, closes too fast or stops short can leave an opening unprotected in a fire.

What's included

  • Remedials priced on the day
  • Curtain, guide and bottom rail inspection
  • Counter, hatch and large fire shutters
  • Fusible link and alarm interface checks

Your questions answered

Is fire shutter testing a legal requirement?

Fire shutters are part of a building's fire precautions, and the fire safety law in each UK nation requires those precautions to be maintained in efficient working order. Regular drop testing with records is how that is shown.

What happens if a shutter fails the test?

We report it straight away, make it safe where possible, and give you a price for the repair so the opening is protected again.

Will the test set off my fire alarm?

We coordinate with you and your alarm contractor so the shutter can be tested without unwanted alarm calls.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

What details help you quote quickly?

The postcode, the approximate width and height of the opening, whether you want manual or electric operation, and a photo of the frontage.
