Choosing fire shutters for premises in Ampthill
Fail-safe or gravity-closing designs let the curtain descend even if the power fails during a fire. They are usually linked to the fire alarm, and many also have a fusible link that releases the curtain in heat.
A fire shutter that sticks or closes too slowly may not protect the opening, which is why drop tests matter. Product certification and test evidence come from the manufacturer, and we provide the documentation with the shutter.
Features to choose from
- Fire resistance from 60 to 240 minutes, product dependent
- Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
- Alarm-linked closing with fusible link backup
- Manufacturer's test evidence and certification
- Planned servicing to keep it compliant
- Counter, hatch and large-opening versions

Rules in England
Fire safety law and fire shutters
In England fire shutters form part of a building's fire precautions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must keep them maintained in efficient working order and good repair, which in practice means regular drop testing with written records.

Before you book in Ampthill
Do you cover Ampthill?
Yes. Ampthill (MK45) is within our Bedfordshire coverage, along with nearby Bedford, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard.
Do you certify fire shutters?
The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.
Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?
Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.
What rating do I need?
The rating must match the fire-resisting wall the shutter is in, which is set by the building's fire strategy or fire risk assessment. We work from that, or from your fire engineer's specification.
What warranty do I get?
Products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty for your shutter is set out in your quote.
Is the survey free?
Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.
