Fire shutters in South Croydon: the essentials

Counter-height fire shutters protect serving hatches and kitchen pass-throughs. Escape routes and the effect of the shutter closing are checked against the fire strategy before ordering.

Fail-safe or gravity-closing designs let the curtain descend even if the power fails during a fire. Because they are part of the building's fire precautions, they must be maintained and tested regularly.

Specification options

  • Counter, hatch and large-opening versions
  • Planned servicing to keep it compliant
  • Commissioning and drop test on handover
  • Fire resistance from 60 to 240 minutes, product dependent
  • Fail-safe or gravity closing on power loss
  • Governed closing speed for safety

Rules in England

Fire safety law and fire shutters

In England fire shutters form part of a building's fire precautions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsible person must keep them maintained in efficient working order and good repair, which in practice means regular drop testing with written records.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in South Croydon

Do you cover South Croydon?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in South Croydon. We also cover nearby Croydon, Purley and Wallington.

Will a fire shutter close in a power cut?

Fire shutters are designed to close on loss of power or on a fire signal, usually by gravity with a governed speed, so they fail safe.

Do you certify fire shutters?

The fire rating belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We supply certified shutters with their documentation and install them to the manufacturer's instructions.

How often should a fire shutter be tested?

Fire shutters are part of a building's fire precautions, so they must be kept in working order. Manufacturers and industry guidance typically call for a drop test and service at least once a year, and more often where they are used heavily.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.
