How high-speed doors work, and what to ask for
Light curtains in the frame stop the curtain closing if anything is in the opening. Vision strips in the curtain let drivers and pedestrians see what is on the other side.
Regular servicing keeps the sensors and safety devices working correctly on such a busy door. They are designed for very high numbers of cycles a day, which a standard roller shutter is not.
What's included
- Vision strips for safe traffic flow
- Self-repairing curtain on many models
- Fast-acting PVC fabric curtain
- Internal, external and cold-store versions
- High daily cycle rating
- Radar, loop, pull-cord and push-button activation

Rules in England
Electrical work
Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In homes in England, new circuits are notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, so the work is done by a registered electrician who can self-certify it, or notified to building control.

Before you book in Altrincham
Do you cover Altrincham?
Yes. We survey, fit and repair high-speed doors in Altrincham and the WA14 district, as part of our coverage across Greater Manchester.
What happens if a forklift hits the curtain?
On many models the curtain pops out of its guides and re-feeds itself on the next cycle, which avoids the damage a steel shutter would suffer.
Do high-speed doors save energy?
They reduce the time an opening stands open, which cuts heat loss and draughts on busy doors.
How fast do they open?
High-speed doors open in a few seconds, much faster than a roller shutter. The exact speed depends on the model and size.
Do your guide prices include VAT?
Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.
Will you take away my old shutter?
Yes. Removal and disposal of an old shutter is included when we quote for a replacement.
