What to know about high-speed doors in Lerwick

They are designed for very high numbers of cycles a day, which a standard roller shutter is not. Radar, induction loops and pull cords open the door automatically as traffic approaches.

High-speed doors are often fitted inside an insulated roller shutter, which provides security out of hours. Vision strips in the curtain let drivers and pedestrians see what is on the other side.

Features to choose from

  • Radar, loop, pull-cord and push-button activation
  • Vision strips for safe traffic flow
  • High daily cycle rating
  • Light curtain safety protection
  • Internal, external and cold-store versions
  • Fast-acting PVC fabric curtain

Rules in Scotland

Safety of powered shutters

Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Before you book in Lerwick

Do you cover Lerwick?

Yes. Lerwick (ZE1) is within our Highlands & Islands coverage, along with the rest of Highlands & Islands.

Is a high-speed door secure?

Not on its own. The fabric curtain is for traffic and environmental control, so it is often paired with a roller shutter that closes out of hours.

Do high-speed doors save energy?

They reduce the time an opening stands open, which cuts heat loss and draughts on busy doors.

What happens if a forklift hits the curtain?

On many models the curtain pops out of its guides and re-feeds itself on the next cycle, which avoids the damage a steel shutter would suffer.

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new shutters, grilles and doors: the survey and written quote are free and there is no obligation to go ahead. Repair and servicing visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we visit.

Do you work with landlords and managing agents?

Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.
