How LPS 1175 high-security shutters work, and what to ask for

Higher ratings mean heavier curtains, stronger guides and locking, and fixings into suitable structure. The LPCB publishes a list of certified products, called the Red Book, so a rating can be checked independently.

Your insurer may name a minimum rating in your policy, so check the schedule before choosing a product. Older Issue 7 ratings ran from SR1 to SR8; roughly, SR1 corresponds to A1, SR2 to B3 and SR3 to C5.

Features to choose from

  • Ratings from A1 upwards to suit the risk
  • Installed as tested to keep the rating valid
  • Reinforced guides, curtain and locking
  • Certificate reference provided with your quote
  • STS 202 and BS EN 1627 products on request
  • Products certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Questions about LPS 1175 high-security shutters in Camborne

Do you cover Camborne?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Camborne. We also cover nearby Redruth, Falmouth and Newquay.

Do you hold LPCB certification?

The certification belongs to the manufacturer's tested shutter, not to us. We supply certified products, give you the certificate reference with the quote, and install them to the tested specification.

Does my insurer need a rated shutter?

Some policies specify a minimum rating for certain trades or stock values. Check your policy schedule, or send it to us and we will match the product to it.

What does an LPS 1175 rating like B3 mean?

In Issue 8, the letter is the threat level, meaning the tools and number of attackers the product was tested against, and the number is the minimum delay in minutes. B3 means threat level B with at least three minutes' delay.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

Who carries out the work?

Work is carried out by experienced shutter engineers working for S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which is the company your contract is with.
