LPS 1175 high-security shutters in Fife: the essentials
The LPCB publishes a list of certified products, called the Red Book, so a rating can be checked independently. Higher ratings mean heavier curtains, stronger guides and locking, and fixings into suitable structure. Where the structure around the opening is weak, it may need strengthening for the rating to mean anything in practice.
Issue 8 ratings combine a letter for the tools and attackers tested against with a number for the minimum delay in minutes, such as B3 or C5. Older Issue 7 ratings ran from SR1 to SR8; roughly, SR1 corresponds to A1, SR2 to B3 and SR3 to C5.
Options we can specify
- STS 202 and BS EN 1627 products on request
- Certificate reference provided with your quote
- Ratings from A1 upwards to suit the risk
- Electric operation with override
- Reinforced guides, curtain and locking
- Products certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8

Rules in Scotland
Rated security products
LPS 1175 certification belongs to the manufacturer's tested product. We give you the certificate reference with your quote and install the shutter to the tested specification. We do not hold or claim certification ourselves.
Planning permission for shopfront shutters
In Scotland fitting an external security shutter to a shopfront normally needs planning permission from the council, and listed building consent if the building is listed. Councils often ask for the box to be concealed and for open or perforated designs rather than solid shutters in conservation areas.
Safety of powered shutters
Powered doors and shutters are treated as machinery. The installer commissions them with a risk assessment, safety devices where the risk calls for them and force checks to BS EN 12453, then hands over a declaration of conformity and maintenance instructions. In workplaces, the employer or whoever controls the premises must keep doors maintained and safe for staff and visitors.
Electrical work
Electric shutters are wired to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. In Scotland electrical work in buildings must also meet the Scottish building standards, and is carried out and certified by a qualified electrician.

Before you book in Fife
What does an LPS 1175 rating like B3 mean?
In Issue 8, the letter is the threat level, meaning the tools and number of attackers the product was tested against, and the number is the minimum delay in minutes. B3 means threat level B with at least three minutes' delay.
Is SR2 the same as B3?
The two systems are different, but as a rough guide SR1 corresponds to A1, SR2 to B3 and SR3 to C5. Your insurer's wording tells you which version they require.
Does my insurer need a rated shutter?
Some policies specify a minimum rating for certain trades or stock values. Check your policy schedule, or send it to us and we will match the product to it.
Are your prices fixed?
Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.
Do you work with landlords and managing agents?
Yes. We quote, fit and service shutters for landlords, managing agents and facilities teams, including multi-site planned maintenance.
