What to know about roller grilles in Purley

Aluminium grilles are lighter and suit large unit fronts; steel grilles add strength. Polycarbonate infill panels can be added to stop items being passed through the lattice.

Roller grilles roll into a box like a shutter, and can be manual or electric. An open curtain lets air and light through, so displays stay on view and the unit does not look closed down.

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

Questions about roller grilles in Purley

Do you cover Purley?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Purley. We also cover nearby Coulsdon, South Croydon and Wallington.

Is a roller grille or a perforated shutter better?

A grille gives far more visibility and airflow, while a perforated shutter gives more privacy and weather protection. Shopping centres often specify grilles; high streets use both.

Can a grille cover a very wide unit?

Yes, with a stronger curtain or removable intermediate posts to keep it rigid.

Can things be passed through a grille?

Small items can pass through an open lattice. Polycarbonate infill panels close the gaps if that is a concern.

Can I get a quote from photos?

Photos and approximate sizes let us give you a guide price quickly. A survey is still needed before a shutter is made, because it is built to exact measurements.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.
